Three Things You Should Do Before Waxing

Whether you choose to do an at-home waxing kit, or you plan to have a session with a professional wax technician at a salon outside your home, you may be nervous. The process is especially nerve-inducing if you have never had a waxing session before, or you are handling the task yourself for the first time. Before you have any part of your body waxed, whether it is your facial hair, bikini line, legs, or arms, there are a few things you should do to make the process easier and less painful.

Take an Ibuprofen

Before you undergo a wax treatment, it is helpful to take a dose of ibuprofen or your preferred pain reliever. This will help dull the nerve endings in the area where the wax will be applied and removed. You should also take ibuprofen post-waxing as you feel necessary. Just don't exceed the recommended dose on the bottle.

Do Not Shave, Pluck, or Tweeze

It is important to have enough hair for the wax to adhere to, otherwise, your waxing efforts will be in vain. Don't pluck, tweeze, or shave the hair in question before you wax. You should have at least two weeks of growth present so the wax will be able to pull it from the roots. If you have shaved, plucked, or tweezed recently, put off your wax session for a few days and handle the task later.

Relax

For many people, the worst part of a waxing session is the fear and anticipation of pain. In most cases, the pain isn't as bad as the individual had imagined. Just relax and think of something else. If you are having a professional wax you, put in your earbuds and listen to happy music. If you are doing the job yourself, make sure you follow the directions on the waxing kit and work quickly to get the chore over with as fast as you can.

Waxing is more effective than shaving and other types of hair removal, as the hair grows back lighter, thinner and slower. If you have any questions about waxing, talk to your preferred professional esthetician. You should also consult your physician before waxing if you take certain medications or have unique health concerns that may cause an issue. Once you are cleared to wax, you can have smooth skin all year long without the presence of rough and unsightly hair.
